NASWC Bird Walk 10.08.06

Birds Observed on the NASWC Bird Walk.

  • Great Blue Heron
  • Great Egret - Has a yellow bill and dark legs.
  • Snowy Egret - Has a mostly dark bill and dark legs with yellow feet.
  • Turkey Vulture
  • Red-shouldered Hawk
  • American Kestrel
  • Killdeer
  • Lesser Yellowlegs
  • Least Sandpiper
  • White-winged Dove - This is the most numerous bird in the neighborhood.
  • Mourning Dove - Told from White-winged by long pointed tail and lack of white wing patches.
  • Red-bellied Woodpecker
  • Downy Woodpecker (heard only - high-pitched whinny)
  • Eastern Phoebe - Has a dark head and yellowish belly. This was the only flycatcher we saw.
  • Loggerhead Shrike - This is a fierce little predatory bird with a black mask.
  • Blue Jay
  • Carolina Chickadee - Seen in the trees among the houses.
  • Ruby-crowned Kinglet (heard only - typewriter-like clicking)
