NASWC Bird Walk 11.05.06

Birds Observed on the NASWC Bird Walk.

  • Double-crested Cormorant - This unexpected migrant flew almost right over us as it checked out a drainage pond across the creek.
  • Great Egret
  • Cooper's Hawk - We got great views of an immature bird perched on the big dead tree by the parking lot.
  • Killdeer
  • Least Sandpiper
  • Wilson's Snipe
  • White-winged Dove
  • Mourning Dove
  • Belted Kingfisher - A beautiful male perched on a wire right out in the open at the end of our walk.
  • Red-bellied Woodpecker
  • Downy Woodpecker
  • Northern Flicker - We got two great views of this newly returned winter resident woodpecker.
  • Eastern Phoebe
  • Loggerhead Shrike

  • Carolina Chickadee - Heard only.

  • Ruby-crowned Kinglet - We often heard its typewrite-like clicks but we had trouble spotting this extremely active and tiny winter bird.

  • Yellow-rumped Warbler - This winter resident warbler has returned in force. We saw many flitting through the trees and a few even held still!
