NASWC Bird Walk 11.19.06
Birds Observed on the NASWC Bird Walk.
- Great Egret - This is the large white bird we saw in the distance on the creek.
- Black Vulture
- Red-shouldered Hawk - An immature bird perched on the wire over the creek right in front of us.
- Killdeer - We saw this shorebird on the baseball field on the way back. It has two black bands across its breast.
- White-winged Dove - Has large white wing patches.
- Mourning Dove - Has longer and pointier tail, no white wing patches.
- Red-bellied Woodpecker - Heard only.
- Northern Flicker - One bird perched right in front of us by the drainage pond.
- Blue Jay
- American Crow - Heard only
- American Robin - Several flocks flew over us, but never landed close by for good looks.
- Northern Mockingbird
- European Starling
- Cedar Waxwing - Several flocks flew over us, but never landed close by for good looks.
- Yellow-rumped Warbler - As we crossed the creek towards the drainage pond we finally got a good look at one of these birds -- we even saw its yellow rump!
- Northern Cardinal
- Red-winged Blackbird - in the large dead tree by the parking lot
- Great-tailed Grackle
- House Finch
- House Sparrow
The remaining birds were part of the mixed flock we found in the trees and brush by the drainage pond. They were pretty difficult to see as the flitted around in the branches.
- Carolina Chickadee
- Black-crested Titmouse
- Brown Creeper
- Carolina Wren
- Bewick's Wren
- Golden-crowned Kinglet
- Ruby-crowned Kinglet
- Orange-crowned Warbler
- White-throated Sparrow
