Birds Observed on the NASWC Bird Walk.

  • Blue-winged Teal - A few were wading in the creek.

  • Green Heron - Heard and seen perched on a wire over the smaller creek
  • Black Vulture
  • Turkey Vulture
  • Red-shouldered Hawk - Flew right over us holding its wings oddly bent, probably because it was flying into the southeast wind.

  • Mourning Dove
  • Yellow-billed Cuckoo - Heard only
  • Chimney Swift
  • Red-bellied Woodpecker - Heard only
  • Eastern Wood-Pewee - Great looks at a perched bird which even sang for us
  • Least Flycatcher - This is my best guess at an empidonax flycatcher that we struggled to see flitting through the leaves, but we could hear its "whit" calls.
  • Scissor-tailed Flycatcher - Had one briefly fly over
  • Blue Jay
  • Purple Martin
  • Barn Swallow
  • Carolina Chickadee
  • Carolina Wren - Heard only
