NASWC Bird Walk 09.30.07

Birds Observed on the NASWC Bird Walk.

  • Great Blue Heron
  • Snowy Egret
  • Green Heron
  • Black Vulture
  • Turkey Vulture
  • Cooper's Hawk - We saw one circling near the creek and being escorted by a flock of about 15 starlings.
  • Red-shouldered Hawk
  • Red-tailed Hawk
  • Killdeer
  • Spotted Sandpiper
  • Least Sandpiper - briefly in the soccer fields with the Killdeer
  • White-winged Dove
  • Mourning Dove
  • Chimney Swift
  • Belted Kingfisher
  • Red-bellied Woodpecker
  • Downy Woodpecker
  • Eastern Phoebe
  • Scissor-tailed Flycatcher
  • White-eyed Vireo - Mostly heard rather than seen, but we did get a couple glimpses.
  • Blue Jay
  • Barn Swallow
  • Carolina Wren - Heard only.
  • Bewick's Wren - Heard and briefly seen.
  • Blue-gray Gnatcatcher

  • Indigo Bunting - One juvenile bird was in the reeds in the creek near the eastern edge of our walk.

  • Baltimore Oriole - There were 2 drab females in the dead tree by the parking lot.
  • House Finch - These were the first I've seen this fall.
