Frequently Asked Questions

A Nominating Committee is a Special Committee whose task must be completed in some manner and they can not rely on only two people to do the task of putting together a slate of recommendations. (Which can happen when a committee is reduced to three members and one does not show up or is late. Not a good idea.) While it is entirely possible that an office will remain empty simply because there is nobody qualified for the job in the eyes of the Committee, they should make every effort to not allow that to happen. Our community of members is full of talent and amazing people. So we all should be digging for candidates, volunteering, and basically stepping forward to contribute. But when a vacancy occurs, the office is opened to the floor for nominations. The Committee’s report, however, will show a vacancy when presented.

Q - Why does it specify 3 to 5 members for the Nominating Committee?

A – The main reason is because if someone has to drop out, then there will be enough to continue the work. A committee of three is plausible.

Q – Who appoints the chairperson?

A – The committee

Q – When do they meet?

A – Upon creation, the committee should meet at the back of the room in the meeting in which they were appointed in order to exchange contact information. They are dissolved upon giving the report to the General Membership at the election meeting.

Q – Can anyone serve?

A – Yes and No. Every member is welcome to serve! But candidates for office, per our NASWC Bylaws can not be members of that Committee. The President is ex officio a member of all committees except the Nominating and Audit Committee.

Q – Where can I view the Bylaws?

A – Right here on our website!

Q – I am not a member. How do I join and what does it cost?

A – Contact any officer for information about joining. Specifically talk to the Treasurer at treas@naswc.org about paying the dues to join. Our dues are only $25 per year and you will make that up with just the savings in the garbage service contract we carry with Round Rock Refuse.

Q – I would like to join the board. How can I do that?

A – Again, contact any officer. See the contact page. We welcome all new comers!
