Threat of 183 Toll Diminished
The following is a communication from Austin Council Member Brewster McCracken's office concerning the threat of tolls on Highway 183. Because of the work by the 183 North Council of Neighborhoods and Businesses (which NASWC started), the toll threat has diminished! Read and enjoy.

Good afternoon,
We just received word that the Texas Department of Transportation will not toll U.S. 183 between McNeil Dr. to RM 620. In a letter addressed to Council Member McCracken, Robert Daigh stated, "I am writing to assure you that TxDOT will not toll the main lane segment of US 183 between McNeil Drive and RM 620... the only way this road could now be tolled would be if the citizens of Austin and of Williamson County request that action. Even if the citizens initiated such a request to toll this portion of US 183, such a request would require a public involvement process, an update of the environmental document, and approval by the Texas Transportation Commission before any tolling would occur."
We are delighted by this news and wanted to be the first to inform you of this community success. Please note that the resolution we brought forward for tomorrow's council meeting is no longer necessary and has been pulled from the agenda.
Attached you'll find the letter that we received from Robert Daigh with TxDOT.
Thank you so much for your active involvement over the past few weeks on this issue. This is a big win for all Northwest Austinites and it is in large part due to the overwhelming support you and your neighbors showcased. We look forward to working with you to achieve even more accomplishments in the future.
